My name is Alex Gard and I am a hobby photographer born October 1987 in Tasmania,
Australia. I’ve worked at sea since 2007 and it was there I found a passion for photography and fell quickly into the wormhole of film and large format photography.

At sea on M/V Tek-Ocean Spirit, mid 2017

These days I’ve cut back my seagoing work to focus more on my craft specifically practicing the Wet Plate Collodion process (a fickle mistress!) and landscapes.

I love photographing Tasmanian scenery and occasionally the people in my life. This blog is meant more as a crude documentation of my learning process and a place for me to keep a sort of technical record of what I do. I will log my trials, errors, disasters, successes and thoughts here. Feel free to check out my website or follow my Facebook page.

My e-mail address is if you have any questions or would like to arrange a session.
